Based in Newmarket, Ontario, Michael Cripps is a formally trained watercolour artist specializing in loose, expressive pet portraiture. Working from client photographs, Michael transforms reference photos into vibrant art that captures each subject's energy and unique spirit. Inspired by the emotional bond between humans and their animal companions, Michael blends expressive watercolour washes with detail to create soulful, custom tributes. His portraits go beyond a simple likeness, celebrating the unique warmth, personality and enduring presence that these beloved creatures bring into our lives. Outside the studio, Michael can be found exploring Ontario parks, trails and waterfalls

Taking a break from the concentration required for watercolour painting, Michael enjoys creating simple, quick, expressive caricatures of favourite celebrities. At Best Art Co., he teaches watercolour painting, pet portraits, and the art of caricature. He works with each student at their skill level, helping them build confidence and develop skills in observation, colour, brushwork, and expression.
